Onalaska man dies, another charged with murder after Monday night shooting

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 28-year-old Onalaska man in connection with a Monday night shooting that left another man dead.

Deputies were called to a residence on FM 3186 and Onalaska at about 11:10 p.m. Monday, September 28 after receiving a 911 call reporting a shooting, according to Captain Rickie Childers of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety responded and found the victim Kevin Wayne Kelly, 28, already receiving medical attention. Kelli was flown by life flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital In the Woodlands. Kelly later died of his injuries.

Investigators found the suspected shooter in a wooded area near the home along with the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

The suspect was identified as Branch Adam Williams. He was arrested for murder and additional charges are pending, according to Childers.
