Update: Law enforcement radio conversations indicate the “blowout” has been contained and Hwy. 59 is reopening as of 8:52 a.m.
Polk County first responders are investigating reports of a possible pipeline or gas line explosion in the Goodrich area at about 8 a.m. Sunday.
Several callers to the county’s 911 service reported the unknown blast shook their homes located in the area of FM 2665 and US Highway.
Troopers with the Texas Highway patrol could be heard on police radio broadcasts saying that they could see signs of a pipeline blowout — including white smoke and a roaring sound — near the US 59 Trinity River bridge. They immediately began shutting down traffic on US 59 in the area.
More details as they become available.
